"Speaking of Sin" Book Study - Weds evenings

Has the Lenten sermon series peeked your interest? Interested in growing in your understanding about how "sin" might be present in our lives? Do you desire to grow in community with those in whom you sit in the pews each Sunday?

Then, the Wednesday night in Lent class is for you!

Join the Pastor on the 3rd floor (in the balcony) beginning this coming Wednesday (March 10th) at 7 pm for three weeks of discussion using Barbara Brown Taylor's book, Speaking of Sin: the Lost Language of Salvation as our guide. There will be also opportunities to talk through the sermons as the group wants.

If you want a book, please let the Pastor know and they will be available for $10 on Sunday.

Children's Sunday School

We welcome children at Washington Plaza Baptist Church. Through a rotation system of loving volunteers, we currently offer children's Sunday School during the time of worship for adults. All volunteers are screened and trained in child education and safety. The curriculum we are using is called One Room Sunday School. From Cokesbury Publishing, One Room Sunday School is specifically designed for a children's Christian education program where four or more age groups are taught in one classroom. Students will grow together through comprehensive Bible study, application of Bible lessons to everyday discipleship, and a variety of age-appropriate activities. It is a great opportunity for children to work together with a group of all ages and for older children to begin to learn more about mentoring those who are younger than them.

Kerygma Bible Study

Over centuries the church has developed theological ideas in the form of doctrines, which have been embraced by all Christendom with little variation. Kerygma: The Bible and Theology explores eight major Christian doctrines, examining the Old and New Testament texts that inform belief and exploring how the church has formulated that belief as doctrine. Published in four books. We will be studying this series each Wednesday night at WPBC at 6:30 with breaks for Advent and Lent. We will conclude the end of May. For more information, see Richard Williams or email him at tyro524@aol.com.

Book One - 7 Parts. The Trinity: Who is God? Christology: Who is Jesus Christ?
Book Two - 6 Parts. Ecclesiology: What is the Church? Anthropology: Who is Humanity?
Book Three - 6 Parts. Soteriology: How are We Saved? Authority: Where is Authority?
Book Four - 7 Parts. Sacraments: What are the sacraments? Eschatology: What is the Kingdom?

Adult Sunday Morning Bible Study

Come one, come all to Adult Bible Study on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am in the Plaza Room! The group studies a variety of topics about the Christian faith through the year.

In January, the class will begin a study of Galatians. The class will be using the text: Letters to the Galatians and the Ephesians from the New Daily Bible Study series by Williams Barclay. Books are $12.50. If you would like to purchase one, please see Ernie or David.

Know that this is an open minded gathering where all are welcome. The goals are openness, sharing, acceptance and spiritual growth. Even if faith in Christ is something you embrace or are still thinking about, you will feel right at home!

Co-lead by Ernie Brunson and David Rickert.

Noon Bible Study for Ladies

This group is made up of 6 to 12 women and has been in existence about 35 years. It is open to all women in and out of WPBC.

The group uses a study book in seeking the meaning of God's word. Our goal is to get the 'essence' of the Bible through reading, discussion and understanding while applying our insights to daily living.

Meeting once a month at different homes for study has led to forming a close bond of fellowship and Christian love.

Questions? Contact Joan at Bestemor28@aol.com.

Evening Woman's Group

This group provides a community of support in which women can freely discuss problems and losses and also have fun.

Currently, we are getting to know each other at a deeper level by listening to two members at each meeting tell "their life story so far."

Laughter, tears and self knowledge abound.

Meetings are at 6PM on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the Plaza Room. Contact Janet Rickert at 703-787-9529 or darickert@hotmail.com or Leomia Brunson at 703-437-8443.
