Ministries & Missions

Music Ministry

We have a growing choir and an ambitious music program.

The choir meets every Monday at 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the church sanctuary to rehearse for Sunday services and upcoming special events. The choir takes a sabbatical during the summer.

We pride ourselves on the diversity of our music program, which includes Classical, Traditional, Contemporary, and Gospel music.

New choir members are always welcome. We especially need basses. Contact Music Director, Ken Williamson for more details.

Reston Interfaith

WPBC was one of the founding members of Reston Interfaith. Currently, WPBC member Barbara Schipper serves on the Reston Interfaith Board of Directors. WPBC actively participates in many programs including homeless advocacy and the Hypothermia Project.

Thanks to all the walkers that participated.

The Closet

WPBC members Richard and Eloise Williams are serving on The Closet's board of directors for 2012. WPBC has been serving on the board and supplying volunteers for 35 years. This community thrift shop has been an important source of clothing and home furnishings for people of little means. Its tremendous volume generates thousands of dollars annually which are dispersed to many local charitable organizations. Leomia Brunson, a WPBC member since 1975, was the assistant manager at The Closet from 1980 to 1987 and then manager until her retirement in 2004. Please contact Richard or visit the Closet website www.theclosetofgreaterherndon.org to see what are WPBC's assigned days in order to volunteer to help out.

The following are WPBC's Winter volunteer days at The Closet:

  • Thursday, January 5
  • Saturday, February 11
  • Tuesday, February 28
  • Tuesday, March 20

All you need is a couple of hours and desire to work alongside other volunteers. Contact Richard or Eloise Williams know if and when you are able to attend.

The Hypothermia Project

WPBC is repeating the service we did last year in providing an evening meal and bagged lunches one Sunday a month during January, February and March 2011.

"Come make a difference in a life!" We need about 6-8 people to meet at the church Sunday January 8th at 4:30pm to make bag lunches. A meal for 40 people will be taken to the Embry Rucker Shelter in Reston. The menu so far is: 2 kinds of chili, macaroni and cheese, a salad, a vegetable, and rolls with butter. Donations of juice boxes or granola bars are welcome as well as cash to reimburse the church for the paper goods. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Nancy Mohl at 703-319-0972.

Thank you to all that helped make Hypothermia Project year 2011 a successful year!

What a important and life changing experience! Watch for updates on how to get involved next winter.
